MPC Sample MIDI Export: Get Your Notes Into a DAW

What MIDI export gives you

A MIDI file of your project contains the notes: which pad played, at what time, and at what velocity. It doesn't contain audio — it's the instructions, not the recording.

Import it into Ableton, Logic, FL Studio, or any DAW and you can trigger any sound you own with your original MPC performance: stock instruments, sample packs, hardware synths.

When MIDI beats audio

Stems are great when you love your sounds and want to mix them. MIDI is better when you want to change the sounds: swap the drum kit, try a different 808, or hand the pattern to a collaborator who'll do their own sound design.

It's also the lightest handoff — a MIDI file is tiny, and it works with whatever instruments the other person has.

Exporting MIDI with SampleLab

SampleLab reads your MPC Sample's .xpj project file directly off the SD card — sequences, notes, and pad assignments included — and exports the performance as a MIDI file.

1. Save your project on the MPC Sample.

2. Connect the MPC Sample to your Mac and open the .xpj in SampleLab.

3. Optionally, clean up first: nudge late notes, fix velocities, arrange your sequences.

4. Hit Export → MIDI and drop the file into your DAW.

Keep the feel

MPC timing is part of the sound — the swing, the slightly-late snare, the human feel of finger drumming. MIDI export preserves your note timing and velocities exactly as performed, so the feel survives the trip to the DAW.

One project, every exit
